Trinity Life Support Community Service District’s Mission is to provide the highest level of advanced life support pre-hospital emergency medical services to our community, and to assist in the education and training of our local fire departments, schools, and the general public on health and safety issues.
About Us
Who We Are
TLSCSD was established as a special district in July 2021, transitioning from nearly three decades as a nonprofit ambulance provider. Our district serves a rugged 3,125‑square‑mile region of mountainous forests, rural communities, and remote wilderness areas. Driving conditions can be challenging, and transports may range from a short trip to Trinity Hospital in Weaverville to long-distance transfers of 60 miles or more.
Our crews, now proud employees of Mountain Communities Healthcare District (MCHD), provide emergency medical care that directly improves patient outcomes and enhances quality of life. These caregivers share a deep commitment to doing what is right for each patient, every time.
Partnership With Mountain Communities Healthcare District
By 2020, community feedback made it clear: residents wanted to preserve ambulance service but could not support a higher parcel tax. Staffing shortages and non‑competitive wages made recruitment difficult across the county.
To maintain reliable local EMS, TLSCSD entered into a partnership with MCHD. Under this agreement:
Ambulance personnel became employees of MCHD, receiving improved wages and expanded recruitment support.
Ambulance billing transitioned to Trinity Hospital.
TLSCSD shifted its focus to facilities, equipment, and fleet management.
This collaboration stabilizes EMS operations while preserving local control of ambulance assets. Together, MCHD and TLSCSD are working to provide consistent, high‑quality ambulance service for Trinity County.
Fleet, Facilities & Operations
TLSCSD maintains four ambulances, with two staffed 24/7, one in Weaverville and one in Hayfork. Two additional reserve units are kept in Weaverville, with off‑duty staff called in when available.
Preferred staffing is one ALS provider and one BLS provider per unit. Due to nationwide and regional paramedic shortages, BLS‑only (two‑EMT) crews may sometimes staff the Hayfork ambulance. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to safe response, advanced life support when available, and reliable transport throughout our rural district.
TLSCSD is currently:
Operating three new ambulances that were purchased and placed into service as of January 2025.
Investing in long‑term improvements to ambulance stations and operational facilities
Training & Community Education
TLSCSD operates as a public safety training facility, supporting volunteer fire departments, Trinity Hospital, and the wider community. On average, over 300 people per year receive training through TLSCSD programs.
We believe strong community preparedness leads to better patient outcomes and a safer, healthier county.

Our Commitment
Together with the Mountain Communities Healthcare District, TLSCSD is building a stable, modern, and community‑focused EMS system. Our mission hasn’t changed: deliver excellent emergency medical care, support local responders, and keep Trinity County safe.
Membership
The Trinity County Medical Transport Partnership offers membership programs that helps protect against the financial burden of emergency medical transportation. If a member needs ground or air ambulance services and insurance doesn’t cover the full cost, our membership programs help waive out-of-pocket costs - so families can focus on healing, not financial strains. Plans are available to include ground ambulance services provided by Trinity County Life Support and air ambulance coverage offered by PHI Cares and REACH Air Medical Services, that can help reach even the most remote corners of the county.
Enrollment is simple and affordable, making it easy for both full-time and part-time residents to feel protected. These programs are built on a shared commitment to care for our community - because every life is precious. Whether it’s a serious accident or a sudden health crisis, these providers respond with speed, compassion, and professionalism.
Two membership options are available so you can choose the level of protection that best fits your needs. For those seeking more comprehensive support, a combined ground and air ambulance plan is available for $160 annually. If you’re looking for essential protection, ground‑ambulance‑only coverage is offered at $50 per household or $40 for an individual each year.
Members gain peace of mind knowing that emergency transport is there when it’s needed most and that their membership helps reduce the stress of unexpected costs. We warmly encourage all Trinity County residents, full or part time, to consider joining this invaluable program - for the comfort, security, and support it brings during life’s most vulnerable moments.
For any additional questions, please call (530) 623-2687 Ext. 5001, or visit Administration at Trinity Hospital.
Please note: This is not an insurance. Insurance will be billed first, and membership benefits apply only to services provided by participating agencies.
